Students of Manufacturing elective visited Furniture Kraft International Pvt. Ltd. Atgaon, Raigad. The visit helped them to gain better understanding of how an SME manufacturer works in a systematic environment. Students also developed deeper insights into flow of material, point of use storage, workstation designs and space utilization amongst other things.
Samagam- Batch 27 - 5th February, 2020
Mr. Nimish Parekh (General Manager-Parekh Integrated Services Pvt. Ltd. FMB Alumnus Batch 9) conducted a Samagam session. Mr. Parekh opens the session with a recollection of his FMB experience, while further relating his academic and business journey at SPJIMR. He reflected on how he was able to reinvent himself with the help of feedback mechanism, conflict management and some self-evaluation strategies.
Leadership Lab – Batch 28 - 24th-26th January 2020
Batch 28 experienced the 3 day Leadership Lab at Garudmachi. Leadership Lab is an experiential learning opportunity for students to practice core leadership skills in a team setting, impart techniques and frameworks for managing individuals, teams, organizations, and networks. FMB Leadership Lab works with budding entrepreneurs to increase their influence, expand their impact, and leave a powerful living legacy.
Caps off for Batch 25 - 18th December, 2019
The very enthusiastic and energetic Batch 25 of SPJIMR’s Family Managed Business program graduated this month. Our Chief Guest for the evening was Mr. Vineet Agarwal (Managing Director, Transport Corporation of India). Dean, Dr. Ranjan Banerjee and FMB Chairperson Dr. Tulsi Jayakumar were also present to bid the participants goodbye.
Dr. Jayakumar addressed the participants and their family members, and spoke on the performance of the graduating students. Dr. Banerjee shared his insights on essential leadership qualities, and spoke about the need for bringing change in an organization, and giving back to society.
“Every end has a new beginning,” said Mr Vineet Agarwal, who spoke about the age of disruption and discipline affecting the family managed businesses, and how he overcame them and scripted his success story.
Foreign Industrial Visit – Batch 26 - 24th -30th November, 2019
Participants of the Retail elective headed to Europe for their Foreign Industrial visit. The first leg of the visit was in Milan, where they visited six companies, including Corrado Jewellery, Eataly, Serravalle Designer Outlet, Milano Rinascente, Jumbo Group Showroom and Carrefour market. Each visit highlighted a unique aspect of the retail business, so that the students found themselves introduced to ideas on family dynamics, merchandising strategies, elements of a hybrid retail chains, luxury retail, elements of creating brand experiences, building on franchisee opportunities, creating shopper engagement experiences and more.
This was followed by a quick visit to Innsbruck, where the participants visited the Alprose Chocolate Museum, and Swarovski Crystal, where they learnt about using global inspirations in product design.
In the final leg, the batch landed in the ever-gorgeous city of Paris, visiting giants such as Tesla, LV, Galleries Lafayette, Fragonard, L’Atellier Renault, Fauchon Infusions and Kusmi Tea.
Packed with industry visits, travelling, exploring and more, this was an enriching FIV for the participants, giving them an overview of global practices in the retail field.
Industry in Classroom – Batch 27 - 7th November, 2019
Mr. S. R. Yadav (Chairman, Bitoo Tikkiwala Pvt. Ltd) conducted the Industry-in-Classroom session as a part of Business and Society class for Batch 27. Mr. Yadav shared his success story, on how he started his entrepreneurial journey by selling tikkis on a push cart on the streets of Delhi. He emphasized how thinking out of the box has enabled him to grow his business in a unique manner which in turn helped him make the right decisions and chase the right opportunities.
FMB connect 2019
SPJIMR’s Centre for Family Managed Business hosted FMB Connect ‘19, its annual awards and conclave at Taj, Santacruz, Mumbai. The theme for the event was ‘Business Beyond India’. The day-long event started with presentations by consulates from nine countries on the respective opportunities, and to compare multiple country strengths for trade and investment purposes.
The nine countries that participated in the session were Italy, Taiwan, Western Australia, Gabon, Poland, Spain (Basque), South Africa, Australia (Queensland) and Afghanistan. The Chief Guest for the event was Mr. Siddharth Roy Kapur (Founder and MD, Roy Kapur Films) who addressed the FMB alumni, followed by the FMB Awards 2019. Dr. Ranjan Banerjee (Dean, SPJIMR) addressed them on ‘Being a Made-in-India owner in a Globalised World’. The event ended with a vote of thanks delivered by Mr. Vineet Agarwal (Director, Ryal Logistics Pvt. Ltd.), an alumnus of FMB 6.
#Dhandha 2019 - the FMB fest of Batch 26
Batch 26 celebrated #Dhandha 2019, the annual flagship fest of FMB. This year's fest was a mix of games, like popping the balloons, a helium balloon game, fashion with a twist, the music whisper challenge and tug of war. The participants brought their energy and enthusiasm to the day, which was filled with a lot of fun. The day ended with an amazing musical performance by the band Folkstory.
Fireside Chat in Delhi
The Delhi Chapter of the SPJIMR FMB Fireside Chat, held at the Delhi campus, was a huge hit. Around 40 alumni attended the session, where they talked about the journey, the experiences, the challenges and more from the case studies of Bittoo Tikki Wala (BTW) and Baggyrys India.

The SPJIMR FMB Fireside Chat’s Kolkata Chapter was held at Hotel Radisson and attended by 40 alumni. The half-day event comprised two fireside chats. The first guest for the event was Mr. Chandra Shekhar Ghosh (MD and CEO, Bandhan Bank) in conversation with Mr. Siddharth Agarwal (Second Generation Scion, Future Publishers & Distributors and FMB alumnus, Batch 16). The second chat had Mr. Prem Jain (Chairman, The Jain Group) in conversation with his son Mr. Shrayans Jain (Vice Chairman, The Jain Group). The entire session was moderated by Mr. Arpit Dhandhania (Director, Bally Exports Ltd. and OMP alumnus, Batch 4).

Sports Night 2018
SPJIMR’s FMB alumni organised the second ‘FMB Sports Night’ on Saturday (Jan. 6, 2018) with Football, Cricket, Tug of war and many more fun games at the Urban Sports Zone of Dr. Antonia da Silva School, Dadar. The teams; Splurge Superstars; Navitas Solarisers; Parekh Blues and Ryal Royals participated with great enthusiasm. Team Ryal won the tournament and an overjoyed team captain Vineet Agarwal led the team in receiving the cup. We would like to thank our alumni core team for their support and making this event a memorable one.
Knowledge session at Kolkata
Kolkata FMB connect organised a Knowledge Session with Sri Ajay Thakur, Head SME, Bombay Stock Exchange on January 5, 2018. More than 100 FMB participants and their friends attended the hour long session with Sri Ajay where he spoke on the advantages of SME Listing. He also made himself available to anyone who wanted personal guidance in listing. The session was followed by dinner.
Dhandha (Batch 22)
SPJIMR’s Post Graduate Programme for Family Managed Business (PGP-FMB) conducted its annual festival #dhandha with the theme ‘Innovation in businesses’ on 4th and 5th October, 2017. This year there were a variety of cultural, sports and music events organised with the help of participants across all programmes. The interesting part of the programme was the consultancy challenge where a team of four participants constituting of three PGDM and one FMB participant, act as consultants and solve a real life business problem of other FMB participant’s company.
Outbound Activity (Batch 24)
SPJIMR’s Programme for Family Managed Business batch 24 participated in the ‘Outbound Programme’ at Garudmachi as part of their core curriculum to develop the skill of “Leadership” in young management aspirants. This year’s outbound programme involved numerous fun-filled initiatives where the participants worked together as teams, helping one another complete the stipulated milestones. From risk taking, to thinking off their feet at time-crucial situations and from understanding the importance of “group performance” vs. “individual performance” to keeping a calm and cool approach, this year’s outbound was nothing short of an enriching experience for all the participants. The participants found that even though they were full of energy and enthusiasm, they lacked the skills of being good listeners and the outbound effectively taught them the art of good listening.
