A rich and lively student-teacher interaction is at the heart of SPJIMR's success. Our faculty members are known to be great teachers, who can bring alive the subject, encourage critical thinking and offer a wider, holistic perspective that is critical in today's complex business environment.

Our faculty members are drawn from academia, industry, government sector and non-profits. Collectively, they bring in a wide range of experience in building and delivering knowledge and skills to prepare participants for leadership roles.

The teaching-learning process at SPJIMR is vastly enriched by a series of non-classroom initiatives through which our faculty help build among participants the right attitudes to enable them lead with purpose, meaning and with an idea of service to society.

We have more than 53 full time faculty members, of which 36 are PhDs. The average experience of the core faculty is over 18 years, with several who have come to academics after years of experience as practitioners. In addition, we have around 20 adjunct faculty and several more visiting faculty who engage with participants of various courses.

Dr. Murali K. Mantrala

Distinguished Visiting Faculty

Murali K. Mantrala is the Sam M. Walton Distinguished professor of Marketing at the University of Missouri, Columbia (MU). He holds a PhD in Marketing from Northwestern University and MBAs from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis and Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta.

His research includes retail pricing and category management, news media pricing, pharmaceuticals marketing, marketing decision models, sales force resource allocation and compensation strategies

Professor Mantrala is a member of INFORMS (the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences) and the American Marketing Association (AMA).He has been a visiting professor at various universities over the last 25 years including Bar-Ilan (Tel Aviv), Chicago, Cologne, Columbia, Duke, Indian School of Business, Rutgers, Vanderbilt, Washington-St. Louis, and WHU Koblenz.

Professor Mantrala’s research on topics such as marketing by two-sided platforms, sales resource allocation, compensation design, and retail pricing strategies has appeared in leading academic journals such as Journal of Marketing Research (JMR), Journal of Marketing (JM), Marketing Science (MKS), Journal of Retailing (JR), Marketing Letters, and Journal of Interactive Marketing (JIM). Two of his papers in MKS and JIM won the Frank M. Bass Best Paper Award in 1998 and the 2013 Best Paper Award respectively. 

In 2010, he received the Humboldt Research Award from the Alexander Humboldt Foundation in Berlin, Germany, for lifetime research contributions, several in collaboration with scholars in Germany.
