SPJIMR is a constituent of the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, India’s premier non-profit institution that has worked in the cause of education and for preserving and promoting India’s rich cultural heritage for decades.
The Bhavan was founded in 1938 by Kulapati Dr K.M. Munshi, an accomplished lawyer, constitutional expert, author and India’s agriculture minister who launched the Vanmahotsava initiative in 1950 that heralded the impulse for preserving ecology. Dr. Munshi founded the Bhavan with the blessings of Mahatma Gandhi and the active support of several eminent leaders like Sardar Patel, Dr Rajendra Prasad, Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru, Shri C. Rajagopalachari, Dr S. Radhakrishnan and many other scholars and professionals. The Bhavan is registered under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860 and the Bombay Public Trust Act of 1950.
The Bhavan has over 120 kendras and units, eight overseas centres and 395 institutions with more than 2,00,000 students on its rolls, an indication of the growth and widespread support and goodwill it has enjoyed over its 8 decades of public service. More information here: https://www.bhavans.info/
Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan has received support, encouragement and praise from a galaxy of leaders over the years as it has expanded its service, grew in stature and came to be recognised as an institute of national eminence. It has many renowned personalities as its honorary members, including His Holiness The Dalai Lama, HRH The Prince of Wales, Mother Teresa and several former Presidents and Prime Ministers of India.
"The real strength of the Bhavan would lie not so much in the number of its buildings or institutions it conducts nor in the volume of its assets and budget, nor even in the growing publications, cultural and educational activities. It would lie in the character, humility, selflessness and dedicated work of its devoted workers."
